Etat Libre D'Orange
d'Orange ("Free State of Orange") is a French perfume house founded by Etienne de Swardt in 2006. Its guiding motto is Le parfum est mort, vive le parfum! ("Perfume is dead, long live perfume!"). That alone tells you this is a rather different, even avant-garde, and especially free-spirited perfume house. Indeed, it soon made a name for itself with its founder's bold and unusual creations, which had controversial names and even images. Perfumes for pets: Etienne de Swardt was born in South Africa and made his way to Paris, where he worked on projects for Givenchy and created "Oh My Dogs!" and "Oh My Cat!" fragrances for pets. Yes, these exist, and they are intended for especially pampered pets. After leaving this fashion house, de Swardt turned to developing his own perfume brand, called Etat Libre D'Orange. Here, he began to free himself from the demands of the traditional perfume industry and break every modern taboo. He created a series of fragrances celebrating sexuality and eroticism in their scents, titles and images. While de Swardt serves as the "editor" of the perfume house, the company works with established perfumers to create its fragrances. Etat Libre D'Orange also has a distinctive visual aesthetic for each perfume, created by the graphic design team Ich & Kar. Etat Libre D'Orange - this is where it all begins for the brand. Its founding year serves as "year zero for perfumery": forget everything you thought you knew about perfume and come discover something new. To that end, the company drafted a "Declaration of Independence" containing six articles that describe the brand's creative approach. These include a commitment to using high-quality materials, simple packaging and, of course, subversion. So what does that mean? It's simple: the fragrances are genderless and were initially packaged in identical bottles bearing the company name and logo. Only later, starting in 2007, did fragrances with distinctive packaging begin to appear, with the launch of the fragrance named after Tom of Finland. The company also collaborated with several celebrities, including Rossy de Palma, Tilda Swinton and the Sex Pistols, all with the aim of creating special-edition fragrances. And, of course, to commemorate Tom of Finland and Josephine Baker in these fragrances. Boldness and freedom of expression: Etat Libre D'Orange now offers a collection of more than 30 fragrances - all ambitious, all essential. The brand emphasizes originality, boldness, authenticity and freedom of expression. It offers olfactory compositions that surprise us time and time again, with no limits on creativity, raw materials or expense. That is why the brand has found an ever-growing number of enthusiastic fans who value its uniqueness, honesty and commitment to its ethos: luxurious, provocative, sometimes ironic, often subversive and always elegant. Indeed, within ten years it had become a respected name in the world of perfume. One of the brand's earliest fragrances is Antihero, a perfume based almost entirely on lavender. "Accept me as I am," says this fragrance: an antihero, an ordinary person who still gives off an intoxicating, pleasant scent. A scent of captivating, alluring modesty. It lasts on the skin for a very reasonable amount of time, but its presence is immense and hard to ignore. No wonder it is recommended for wearing on hot summer days, when you can simply enjoy the simplicity it brings to its surroundings. In contrast, the fragrance Josephine Baker, named after the legendary dancer who rose from poverty to greatness, contains spices and citrus fruits.
