Nobile 1942

“Honestly, it all stems from an idea you may already have inside you. You keep it hidden for a long time, and one day it decides to come out spontaneously. Only then do you realize you want to do it,” Massimo Nobile says of himself. Indeed, it all began with Umberto Nobile, Massimo’s grandfather, whose name was always synonymous with luxury fragrances. Since the early 1930s, he had represented Nina Ricci perfumes, and in 1942, at the height of World War II, he decided to open a perfumery for his wife in Rome. Together, the family owned the Acqua di Parma brand, which was acquired by the LVMH Group in 2004. But Massimo and his wife Stefania decided, despite everything, to start over and founded Nobile 1942 to preserve the family name and his grandfather’s work, and also to build a brand that represents Italian elegance around the world. They don’t follow trends: the two say they have never followed them. Their clearest example is that in 2011, when the Western fragrance world went crazy for Agarwood, they launched La Danza delle Libellule, a Vanil perfume that became their global bestseller. What matters to them is maintaining their understated elegance, which can stand the test of time and meet their customers’ expectations. The first fragrance the two created was Pontevecchio in 2004; it was released in 2005 and effectively marked the beginning of the Nobile 1942 brand. Today, Massimo and Stefania search for perfumers throughout Italy to offer their customers a small taste of a long-standing artistic tradition. They emphasize that their creations speak of their passion and their daily commitment to challenging themselves in everything they do. Nobile 1942 contains essential oils. The brand’s fragrances contain essential oils obtained through natural processes of absorption, filtration, and distillation. This makes for a lengthy production process, but it is rewarded with more intense, long-lasting scents that retain their fragrance and full body. Once all the ingredients have been combined, the blend is left to rest for about a month before it can be considered ready to bottle. This process and the use of natural raw materials give the brand’s signature fragrance another distinguishing quality: adaptability, which changes with the mood and temperament of the moment. All Nobile 1942 products are packaged by hand “in-house,” meaning in Italy. Along with Italian ingredients such as Bergamot from Calabria and Iris from Florence, the brand’s creators make sure to source the finest raw materials. Above all, all their ingredients meet high quality standards and follow the natural process of fermentation. They are also always looking for new artists and craftspeople creating something unique. That is why they use damask silk from Corsica, hand-blown glass from Malta, filigree from Campo Ligure, and leather from Tuscany. In short, these are perfumes that aspire to be works of art, incorporating every kind of Italian artistry. The brand’s fragrances: Perdizione by Nobile 1942 is a musky, Pirchoni and Atzi fragrance for women and men. Perdizione was launched in 2016. The top notes are Lavender, Bergamot, and grapefruit; the middle notes are Orange blossom, Neroli, ylang-ylang, petitgrain, and rose; the base notes are Vanil, musk, and Cedar. To date, 59 fragrances have been released by the brand, with Nobile 1942 being a historic perfume house. The earliest edition was created in 1942, and the newest is from 2018. Its fragrances were created in collaboration with perfumers Marie Duchêne, Michel Muhlhausser, Mathieu Nardin, Christian Carbonnel, Henri Bergia, Luca Maffei, and Antonio Alessandria.
